What Is OASDI (Social Security Tax)?

Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) is the formal name of the Social Security payroll tax. It funds retirement, survivor, and disability benefits. The 6.2% rate applies only up to the annual wage base ($176,100 in 2025); earnings above the cap are not subject to OASDI.
