A Unix timestamp is the number of seconds elapsed since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC (the Unix Epoch). It's the universal standard for representing time in computing.
It's constantly increasing. Use this calculator to see the current timestamp or check Date.now() in JavaScript.
Most Unix timestamps are in seconds. JavaScript uses milliseconds (multiply seconds ร 1000). Common mistake: if your timestamp is ~13 digits, it's milliseconds.
That's January 19, 2038 โ the 'Year 2038 problem' where 32-bit systems overflow. 64-bit systems handle dates far beyond this.
